Derren Brown is a famous hypnotist in the UK. He has appeared on many TV shows demonstrating his skills. One of the most amazing things I’ve seen him do is hypnotize a random person and then make them withdraw £5000 from the bank for him.
They went and did this oblivious to the spell that they were under. At the click of his fingers he then put the person to sleep and told them in 10 seconds time they will wake up and forget the last few moments of their life.
When the film was played back to the person in question they couldn’t believe that this had happened and they had no memory of it what so ever. This is an extreme example however. Derren Brown is one of the best in the world at doing what he does.
Unfortunatley criminals have seen the power of conversational hypnosis and it is now being used for crime. In the USA a man was calmly stealing from store tills by hypnotizing the cashier.
Once they were under his spell he would then ask them to fill up his bag with money and then he would walk away. Staff at the stores only became aware of what was going on when the till didn’t add up at the end of the week so they turned to CCTV which exposed what was going on.
There are several other reports of professional hypnotists using their skills to steal or con money out of people. It is a perfect crime because unlike using violence for crime, there’s no noise or commotion so it is very plausible that you could go unnoticed.
I personally have been learning conversational hypnosis as a hobby. It is great fun to learn and put into practice but you need to be careful not to let the power go to your head and to make sure you stay on the right side of the law.
